TWU Negotiators reconvened this afternoon at AMRs Flagship University. All represented work groups met with the company as they presented their analysis of cost outs covering the TWU pensions, medical coverage options, and sick time and retiree medical costs savings. The TWU Benefits Committee attended the presentation at the request of the Negotiating Committee. The company held a brief Q and A session immediately following their presentation.

This week has been a whirlwind of meetings, presentations, discussion and activities for TWU negotiators and members.

Monday evening TWU International President James C. Little and Air Transport Division Director Garry Drummond hosted a telephonic town hall reporting on the AMR bankruptcy. Members submitted questions via email prior to the call and International President Little answered as many as possible during the limited time frame. The call was well received by members and there are tentative plans to hold another in the near future.

Saving money is not cheap, as one consulting contract for American Airlines and AMR is proving.

Boston Consulting Group has been helping new AMR/American Airlines chairman and chief executive officer Tom Horton reorganize the management structure at the air carrier.

On Thursday, AMR filed a motion seeking approval of the arrangement, with a "not-to-exceed" price tag of $11,732,000 for Boston Consulting's fees.

DFW Airport Labor Solidarity Rally

Monday and Tuesday the TWU Negotiating Team hunkered down at Flagship University continuing their careful evaluation of AMRs financial spread sheets, and drafting their "ask" for specific documents needed for review - the company is obligated to produce these for the TWU negotiators.

The union representing seven categories of ground workers at bankrupt American Airlines will offer alternatives to some of the job cuts and concessions the company says it needs to survive, the head of the Transport Workers Union said on Tuesday.

TWU has asked American's parent company AMR Corp for details on how it arrived at the cost-savings targets it unveiled this month when it said it planned to eliminate 13,000 jobs and terminate pensions.

AMR Bankruptcy Update for February 8-10, 2012

This week the TWU Negotiating Team methodically scrutinized the company’s reorganization plan and spent much of each day analyzing company financial data and spread sheet comparisons. Individual work groups began drafting their questions for the company and presented some to them on Thursday afternoon. Others will follow into next week.

The questions passed to AMR will initialize them to begin answering, in detail, thus providing TWU negotiators an opportunity to look deeper into their financial methodologies and how AMR arrived at their numbers. This will help direct the unions drafting of counter proposals.
